Is it safe to take synthroid and fish oil?

Fish oils provide omega 3 fatty acids. These special fats are called essential fatty acids because your body needs them for cellular metabolism, hormonal balance and fighting inflammation. Your body cannot manufacture omega 3 fatty acids, so you need to get them from your diet.

It is generally considered safe to take fish oils. The only medication you should be aware of when taking fish oils is blood thinning medication, such as heparin or warfarin. Fish oils may cause thinning of the blood and therefore, you need to consult your physician if you're taking any type of blood thinning medication. Studies have shown there are minimal side effects from fish oils.

The only reported side effect may be an upset stomach or diarrhea from taking too many fish oils and this is remedied by just stop taking the fish oils. An upset stomach or diarrhea is usually caused by using rancid or poor quality fish oils. This can be avoided by using pharmaceutical-grade fish oils. These specially formulated liquid fish oils are tested to confirm they contain minimal amounts of PCB's, mercury, dioxins and other contaminants. These fish oils must also contain a minimal amount of omega 3 fatty acids
